For my friends in hurricane territory, remember that some storms jump the gun.  June 1 is the official start of hurricane season, but now's the time to set up RSS alerts from NWS/NOAA.

72Hours was created for San Francisco, but it's got good information on what should be in your survival kit whether you're facing hurricanes, earthquakes, or the death of every Egyptian firstborn male.  I'm just jealous of the text-message alert system -- I wish that were available in Atlanta too.

BzzAgent gives me brownie points when you check out 72Hours, but don't let that stop you.  It's useful information.

Some of you have probably already seen this, but BzzAgent reminded me of it: Rotten Neighbor. If you're moving and want to see if there's a problem neighbor in the area, or if you want to warn the world about a rotten neighbor you've discovered, you'll find a place for trash talking here.

DISCLOSURE: BzzAgent rewards me when you click that link to check it out.
sylvar: (Oh purr!)
Lots of people I know seem to be enjoying this, so I'll give it a try.

Three things that made me happy today:
  • Seeing BzzAgent's new site, which is wonderfully informative and well-designed
  • Teaching Jodi the basics of chess at Kaleisia
  • Overcoming her beginner's luck twice, both times somewhere around her KB2.
Three things I accomplished today:
  • Diced celery, onions, and sweet potatoes, and minced carrots in preparation for dinner tomorrow
  • Played chauffeur for Jodi and Amanda so they could see Because I Said So
  • Got three more books ready to send out to PaperBackSwappers

I'm in a new BzzAgent campaign; this one is for a Firefox add-on called Me.dium.  As far as I can tell, it's made for social web-browsing; install it, and you'll see what sites I'm visiting at the time, and vice versa (with privacy controls, of course), and we can talk while we browse.

I say "as far as I can tell" because I think it would be more obvious if some of y'all install it and give it a try WITH me.

Use this link and I'll automatically be listed in your Friends:

As soon as I got home, I saw that the Sears repairman had come and fixed the dryer. The labor charge was $120, and the parts (a genuine factory-approved drum belt) cost $20. That didn't include hooking the dryer up to the exhaust vent properly, as I had chosen a vinyl hose a year or two ago, and he said it'd be illegal for him to work on it.

Then here for the full story. )

So good night, LJ readers. I'm sure I'll be complaining/bragging again tomorrow.

Susie Bright's podcast is there -- and so are loads of other good things I haven't tried yet. Want a free one-month subscription including one download credit? Go here:

And let me know what you think!

Woo-hoo! We finally get a chance to use the free SpringHill Suites by Marriott stay this weekend!

BzzAgent sent me a slipper a while ago, offering me a free night's stay. Since I want to have a nice long leisurely weekend with Jodi, I also paid for a second night (and got the same discount you can, 25% off at that link). We'll be going to EPCOT and possibly other parks, depending on whether we decide to get seasonal passes or just the one day, one park. As I said to [ profile] tally_cat, free fresh hot waffles in the morning, free shuttle to the parks, and a nice hotel suite. And since it's a suite, there are two queen beds -- so we can save one for sleeping afterward. ;)

Yes, there will certainly be photos. No, they will not be the photos you really want to see. Not unless someone volunteers to be the photographer*. Sorry.

Oh, and I'll get the other slipper, finally.

*and Jodi agrees. Which is rather unlikely.

I've been using Pria CarbSelect bars recently -- they're tasty, high in protein, and I found a great deal on them at Costco. Now BzzAgent is going to be sending me some Atkins Advantage bars so I can try 'em out. I wonder if I'll be addicted to Pria by that time.

I have a hard time believing that something called "Chocolate Decadence" or "Creamy Cinnamon Bun" can be good for you, but I'm willing to give it a try. I expect to have extras, so if anyone else wants to try one, let me know.
sylvar: (Hmmm. (Giles))
I just got a bath slipper in the mail. It's a large white bath slipper for my left foot. And it says that they'll send me the matching slipper when I reserve my room at SpringHill Suites.

Now this isn't quite as random as it sounds. I'm a BzzAgent, so I get odd stuff in the mail so I can pimp the swag. And this slipper was attached to a certificate for a free stay, which we'll be using sometime soon to go to EPCOT. (The Lake Buena Vista SpringHill Suites is a "WDW Good Neighbor Hotel" offering a free shuttle to the property.)

But sending 50% of a pair of slippers? That was a new one on me.

They're also offering my readers 25% off, so if you need a hotel in the neighborhood of $63.75-82.50 (after the discount), feel free to take them up on it:

(No, I don't get a commission, just the aforementioned swag.)

UPDATE: fixed the prices.
sylvar: (Soul by Curve)
I've noticed a funny thing since I started wearing Soul by Curve.

It's not that anyone has said "Hey, you smell great". It's just that, by taking a few seconds in the morning to do something nice for myself, I get a little boost and I tend to feel better during the day. (And if I need a boost, I sniff my wrist. Seriously.)

I'm glad BzzAgent sent me a free bottle, because I don't know if I would ever have bought this for myself before. But I really like it, and I enjoy wearing it.

I always thought that putting on a fragrance was something that one did for the benefit, or approval, of others. Now I know I'd do this for myself even if nobody noticed.

Am I the only one who didn't know this about fragrances (perfume, cologne, etc.)?
sylvar: (Soul by Curve)
Man oh man... I'm used to BzzAgent book campaigns, where I could go to the library or the bookstore while waiting for my BzzKit to arrive, and get started immediately. But with this new campaign, I have to wait for the cologne to be delivered! (I hope it's securely packed!)

At least I was bright enough to test it at Macy's before signing up, so I know I like the fragrance...
