My camera had a shutter problem that's apparently common among early-90s Canons. Following the advice in the second link, I managed to fix it up nicely. I shot a cheap roll and was pleased to see the image gradually fading into gray (as the shutter time became less and less sufficient for a proper exposure), with no such eyelids-half-closed images. So now I know that I can use the camera with confidence.

Mind you, I'll be taking the film to the Brandon Costco, since its photo-developing machine uses custom color profiling and presumably does not suck, but the CVS (despite its tendency to screw up in minor ways) was at least pretty speedy and convenient.

Maybe I'll have another photo safari this weekend. I want some 100 ASA film, darn it. If I'm gonna be shooting in broad daylight, I want to avoid graininess. I'd forgotten about that issue and it makes me want a digital Canon EOS Rebel even more, but not so much that I'd do something as stupid as spending $800 just because I'm having fangirl issues over a piece of hardware.
