From Jeff Cannon, as heard on Grassy Hill Radio (folk/celtic/blues/bluegrass online, without commercials)

I'm gonna tell you 'bout a girl named Mary, tied to her computer screen,
She works at home but she chats sometimes for hours,
Over next door there's a neighbor named Tommy that she's hardly ever seen,
See neither one of 'em stop and smell the flowers,
Tommy came a-knockin' the night the lights went out on 'em suddenly,
He said "pardon me Mary but I thought you might need a candle."

She asked him inside and she lit up the candle and set it out on the table there,
And there they sat in a light they will always remember,
Talkin' about their last few loves and families, schools, and county fairs,
They went 'till the candle finally surrendered,
That was how it started the night the lights went out, as the saying goes,
You gotta' knock on the door if you ever wanna' get an answer.

So come on now, we don't need no light of day,
Everybody knows the way, heart to heart and face to face,
When the lights went out they were surfin' on the net,
Then the lights went out, that they never will forget.

"Doesn't time pass just a little too fast?" she says from her computer screen,
Mary says "Tommy you're as bad as I am."
There in the very same room Tommy's got one too, it's virtual reality,
He smiles and tells her, "God only knows I'm tryin",
Mary says to Tommy,"Hey, you know what would be heavenly?
Let's turn out the lights and remember how we started."

So come on now, we don't need no light of day,
Yeah I know you know the way, heart to heart and face to face,
When the lights went out they were surfin' on the net,
Then the lights went out, that they never will forget.
When the lights went out all the TV screens went dead,
When the lights went out there were people there instead.

So lights out, lights out, lights out, lights out.

I'm pretty sure Homeland Security will be knocking on your door soon about this suspiciously prescient posting!
