Don't think you can get unemployment as a 1099. I think you would have to be W-2, but I'm not an accountant.

No unemployment benefits in Georgia for the self-employed or private contractors, I'm afraid :-( A friend of mine did file for it years ago, and they gave it to him because they decided he hadn't actually fit the definition of a private contractor (which ticked off his former employer, leading them to give him bad references after that).

I was told to give my bank statements as proof of not having income. Unfortunately, that doesn't work when you have joint accounts! Of course, since you're married, you have to go by "household income" anyway :-(
