Bunnies and Easter don't mix

A public service announcement:

  • Rabbits are not "low-maintenance" pets, and are a poor choice as a pet for children.
  • They have a lifespan of 10 years and require as much work as a dog or cat.
  • Your home must be bunny-proofed, or Thumper will chew cords and furniture.
  • Rabbits must be neutered or they will mark your house with feces and urine.
  • They should live indoors, as members of the family.
I love my bunnies, but they do need care every day, including playtime! If you know someone planning to buy a rabbit for Easter, please tell them to check out rabbit.org before they buy.

All my friends who have rabbits have lost at least one data cord to the sharp little teath. Suckers had a knack for getting out of cages too.

I'd more say get a hutch for em outside if you have mild enough weather.

But yeah, Bunnies are EVIL pets.

Bunnies aren't evil, but they're not like dogs or cats.

Outdoors SUCKS if you're a rabbit.

Correction then, the bunnies my friends had as pets were evil. Heck, the ferret was more well behaved then John's bunny. The thing was Houdini's reincarnation, it was always out of the cage and behind the couch, chewing up phone cords, lamp cords and everythign else. This thing also survived 3 mild electic shocks. It bit through a lamp cord that was active at least twice. Don't remember the 3rd one...

I know another friend had a hutch of rabits and they seemed fine but I don't know much. Then again, with the cats and the dog and the bird inside... outside was where I'd have wanted to be. :D

Rabbits chew anything vinelike. It's an instinct. Proper rabbit-proofing takes that as a given, and secures wires as a result.
