Listening to the iPod

Listening to the iPod

Diana Sachs shot this photo for a TBLC article on Overdrive digital audiobooks, which are Windows-only and encumbered with DRM.

The ironic part is that if I actually wanted to use my iPod to listen to an audiobook from Overdrive, I would have to download and install the Overdrive Media Console and Windows Media Player, load the audiobook into WiMP, burn it to a stack of audio CDs, and import the CDs into iTunes as a series of hour-long monoliths.

Bwah ha ha ha ha. Overdrive audiobooks to your mp3 player...Right. Like I'd take the time. Silly people...

It's a nice picture, anyway :)

Oh man, thank you for writing this.

Overdrive on iPOD

What about burning it as an ISO or to a virtual CD Recorder? No "stacks of CD's" then. And from that point just an import to iPOD.

Just curious

That's actually what I did, but most end-users wouldn't know that.

Could you tell me what tools you used to do this?

I burned the book to CDs and then ripped the CDs in iTunes.

(OK, that's a simplification; what I really did involved virtual CD drives and other ripping software. But it's the easiest way to do this.)

I was interested in how to set up virtual CD drives. What software did you use.
I have been burning them to CD-RWs but it takes so long.

I can't even remember -- it was a while ago. Some sort of Nero or Roxio utility, I think.
