- What moment from a VAX gathering sticks out in your mind as being most memorable? most outrageous?
- How on earth did it happen that we never hooked up during all that time we were both lonely and flirtatious?
- What are the principles of integrated pest management, and how does this approach differ from that of the "Green Revolution" era?
- What kind of a sick freak are you? You've got like every Stephen King book. What's up with that? Is it healthy to enjoy that kind of stuff?
No, just kidding. Although if you're curious, the ecosystem, not just your property, is the management unit. Eradication is not the goal (which is good, because it's either impossible or unwise); pest organisms are maintained at an economically tolerable population level. Natural controls (animals that like to eat nuisance bugs, for example, or people who pull weeds) are used whenever possible. The so-called "Green Revolution" (post-WWII) sought to grow defenseless crops and pre-emptively nuke the fields with the cheapest, strongest chemicals available. This led to neighboring fields being overrun by the escaped bugs and their stronger next generation, leading to a chemical arms race against evolution. Similar tactics continue today with "Roundup-Ready" (genetically modified, herbicide-tolerant) grain.
