[In response to someone who said that liberals opposed to the war in Iraq wouldn't want to read Generation Kill]

I'm a hardcore pacifist, if you'll pardon the oxymoron -- I'm likely to avoid taking an attacker's life just to save my own, although I believe I'd be ethically justified if I did choose to defend myself with deadly force.

So naturally I'm quite curious about the personalities of other people who are willing to give their own lives, but who are also willing to take lives without hesitation.

I was disturbed to learn that some Marines thought of it as being just like Grand Theft Auto, but also relieved to learn that most Marines take their actions very seriously when they can afford the time to think about what they've done.

I also greatly appreciated the idea that ROTC on Ivy League campuses would intellectualize the military more than it would militarize academe, and that convinced me that ROTC is actually a very good thing for our society, even though I believe we rely too much on military force to achieve our aims.

Generation Kill has gotten me thinking, and that's never a bad thing.

I'm Velma!

You Are the Very Gay Velma!

She might not even realize it...
But Velma is all about Daphne ... not Fred!

Let's say that we found a way to make a Mr. Fusion, or some other way to generate almost unlimited power cheaply and safely.

Wouldn't this be a really bad thing? I mean, if everyone starts using all that power, it's going to kick up a hell of a lot of waste heat somewhere down the road, and that could toast us just as fast as fossil fuels.
