
Sidebar earned an extra star for their Florida football events. I arrived an hour and a half before kickoff and enjoyed excellent free pre-game drinks (Coke and 1792 bourbon; Hornitos margaritas). There were burgers and hot dogs available for free too, an offer which my carnivorous fellow Gators happily accepted. At halftime, everyone wearing UF gear or colors got a free shot of UV Blue.
This time around, I avoided the pizza and instead tried the garden salad, a reasonable size for five bucks and made with crisp, sweet red bell pepper chunks. I also had a plate of plantain chips, which were of decent quality and quantity, about as good as a bag of Chifles: tasty and worth ordering, but unaddictive. After halftime, I added a plate of cheesy tots to my tab, which were the least impressive of the day and yet still good.
But it's not just the free booze that made for a memorable afternoon. Sitting around watching the game with other Gators means instant camaraderie, and by the fourth quarter we were on tater-tot-stealing terms with each other. The halftime raffle was fun, too, and one of my new acquaintances won 10 Braves tickets for tomorrow's Mets game. Since that's more than he needed, I ended up coming home with four of them. Now if only I knew someone to bring with me...
