Please help me play dress-up!

I played dress-up tonight and took some pictures. Please look through my Playing Dress-Up set and tell me:

  1. Which is your favorite outfit?
  2. Which is your second-favorite outfit?
  3. If I could add to my wardrobe, spending no more than $50, what would you recommend I look for?

THANK YOU!

I prefer #18.

I've no idea what constitutes semi-formal for men (though I will point out that Jon has worn long-sleeved white dress shirt, tie, and whatever pants fit, no jacket, to every wedding we've attended in the past decade). Personally, of your pics I like best all the ones with the tuxedo jacket but I don't think that can be considered semi-formal. The brown or olive jackets with a lighter shirt look pretty good, thought.

if you're often sans jacket, i would heartily recommend a belt. no gaudy belt buckles, unless you enjoy the cheap comedy of them, but a belt with a shirt/tie/slacks combination tends to look more "serious" without being a PITA.

that said, a bowler hat would also work wonders.

(also, blue tie with dark clothing doesn't tend to work as well as a red or burgundy tie, or so I have been reliably informed by at least three people more fashion-conscious than I.)

You're looking good.. you've dropped a ton of weight!!!!

i like 17 and 18 both with 21 being a close third. what would i add? a hair cut or different style. i also don't think the corduroy jacket flatters you at all. just seems a little frumpy, but then again, i have never liked corduroy.

as a disclaimer, my friends have often threatened to put me on what not to wear, so my opinion really doesn't count.

That's the first suggestion about what to add/change... thank you! I'm going to try to grow my hair out at least another three inches overall, so if I can figure out what to do with it in the meantime...

Hmm, maybe I need to set up the camera for a closeup and try a few hairstyles...

Hmmm... I think I like 18, 17 and 23...

I think that the olive jacket, while nice, looks way too big on you. Is that a trick of the camera? It looks VERY loose and unflattering, considering you DO look as though you've lost some weight and are looking quite good.

Additionally, khaki pants are NEVER right for semi-formal. It's the material, not the color, that's the problem.

Is the darker looking suit jacket actually part of your tux? and what are those pants? It looks as though you've got a suit on, or at least a sport coat and similar color/texture pants. DEFINITELY like that, with the white shirt, and then whichever tie you like best.... hmmm though I'm a sucker for a dark suit with that bright blue shirt color under it. How about some pics of that? Do you have ties that would match it?

If you're looking for things to add to your wardrobe, I'd definitely agree that a nice belt is a good idea. Something tasteful and understated, of course. Also, I don't know how often you wear a tie but perhaps another of those?

Additionally, haven't seen the shoes so can't comment on that. What DO the shoes look like?

Believe it or not, I had a fedora. Don't remember what happened to it, but I used it in a costume -- with a PRESS card stuck into it.

I like 15 and 1 myself.

I'd go for more floral shirts for non semiformal and formal occassions. How about one in a teal/blue/turquoise blend and one in a purple blend. This might get you in lots of trouble at vax parties considering that's les, kat's and my fav color schemes. :)

I love the blue tie and i'd consider getting some diagonal stripe tie or a frog tie. *grin*

I found the receipt for toad's suit separates. The trousers are ten over your budget of 50, and the jacket was 156, so triple.

The cord jacket is more 'literature professor' than 'dress up'.

I'd still recommened a thrift store for a dark jacket or suit coat for interviews, funerals, and escorting jodi to grad events and once she's a prof to University events.

the oatmeal jacket looks a bit large and won't do for a semi formal after 6 event according to louch.

Consider for other events in daytime a pastel (can you wear pastels?) mint green, pale pink, sea green shirt for wearing out to dinner/daytime uni events etc in miami or other florida place.

I'm not sure what your 'season' color code is. It has to do with skin tone. I'm a winter, should wear bright jewel tones or bright pastels, no 'heathered' *sigh* or greyed beiged things. Those colors make me look washed out, sick etc.

Find out which season/ color scheme you fit under and get the shirts to match.

Also, i frogot, i love blueprint blue colored dress shirts and that would work with the oatmeal jacket or a navy or charcoal and possibly even that tux jacket. hard to see it on my screen, not sure why.

The olive always looks brown to me.

18, 22 as it appears on the thumbnail screen, (but i read it's the cord jacket so would have to see it in person).

20 is my fave thing to see you wear to a beltaine party of what's there.
