Lowest-bidder shelving

*sigh* Bookcases are easier to assemble when all the holes that should have been drilled actually do get completely drilled...

You could always try IKEA. Don't they have better stuff than WalMart?

At 2x-3x the price, yes. And if I buy one IKEA bookcase, I'm sure I'll end up upgrading the rest... which I don't wanna do right now.

It's a good suggestion, though...

Ah, i didn't realize it was that much more. I've only heard great things about IKEA> i've never actually been there.

Wal-Mart charged $28-29 for the bookcase. IKEA charges $60 for the same size bookcase in a solid color (black, white, red) or psychedelic black-and-white, or $80 if it's a "wood effect" (birch effect, beech effect, etc.).

There really are some great bargains at IKEA, but since we have six bookcases of this size and several shorter ones, I'm glad I've stuck to the low end, at least for now.

IKEA's no different. Just more expensive particle board than Walmart or Target.

Good to know. Thanks!

I find that if I get to a point where some holes have not been drilled, I can usually trace it back to some part I put together the wrong way 'round. Unfortunatly, the last time I did this it was the first piece of the thing, had taken hours and we were not going to take it apart. We got out the drill.

In this case, I found that the hole that should have led from the surface into the rotating cam didn't actually go deep enough. It was only 1-2mm too short, though, so I was able to tap through the back of the hole with a screwdriver.
