Saturday we woke early and drove down to Miami. About the time we hit 826 North (east, really), Jodi had to use the bathroom, and the next exit took us into Miami Lakes, in the area where my dad once lived. After stopping at the gas station, we cruised by the old strip mall. Sir Pizza, where I used to play Q*Bert on a glass-top table machine, is still in business and now sells Italian and Indian food. The Beverly Hills Café was there, and I didn't care about that back then either. The convenience store was still there, although the video mom-and-pop has probably been blockbusted for a long time. How weird and serendipitous to find myself back on the set of my weekends as a tween, although we weren't called that back then.

We pushed on to Castle Anthrax for the Rifferween party. Miss Anna put in an appearance before going to visit her grandma. Toi, the cat who's older than Amanda, was still there. It's always a pleasant surprise to see him again, since his kidneys are failing. I fear this may be the last I see of him. I also got to pet Spot and Sebastian, though the triplets seemed to want to stay upstairs and I never ventured into the bedroom to say hello.

After enough people had arrived, I put on my costume and helped Jodi with hers. Other followed suit; it took us too long to realize that Lisa was Dark Willow. Amy and Ira showed up in Renaissance-looking costumes (Ira included a buckler and an eyepatch, making him a pirate as well). Beth was a kitty cat, Adam was a sleepy guy (bathrobe, shaving cream, slippers, newspaper), Leslie was the Blue Fairy, and Ed was the Minister of Death. Bronwyn and David were there too, and we all forgave them for not having costumes because we were just glad to see them. Sheryl whipped off her wig to reveal a respectable amount of hair.

Someone's hosiery appeared, through a somewhat translucent garment, to be crotchless -- although I might be wrong about that. Still, what an interesting thought... :) Perhaps that person will email me to confirm or deny. They haven't posted to their LiveJournal for a while, though, so they might not see this entry...

Somewhere around 1am, we headed for Miami Springs to stay with Mom and Floyd. We didn't see much of him, even Sunday morning, because he was assembling nine sandwiches to bring to a church function -- but we did get to see him open his birthday presents before Jodi and I went to breakfast with Mom. We got out of town after that, and stopped around Naples for gas and snacks. Jodi hadn't slept well, or much, so the fact that the convenience store had sour cream and onion chips, and ridged potato chips, but not ridged sour cream and onion chips, annoyed her greatly. We eventually got back to Tampa by 2pm and learned that Amanda and Reese had done well for themselves at the Labyrinth-themed party at New College. She was Sarah, he was Jareth, but the king hell costume was Jack, mayor of Halloween Town, complete with paper-mache head and stilts to make him proportionately thin. It's only the friends I made at UF that keep me from wishing I'd gone to New College. It sounds like so much fun. (But the senior thesis and oral baccalaureate exam don't.)

The individual's hosiery was indeed crothless, but don't get your hopes up, because I'm pretty sure she had undies underneath it. This, however, I was unable to confirm or deny.

That's funny, I almost went to New College. The events leading up to me not going to New College, if changed, would have me out of New College well before you arrived.
