Halloween craft: IKEA paper lamp + cadmium orange watercolor

Halloween craft: IKEA paper lamp + cadmium orange watercolor

Made with one 8ml tube of cadmium orange Cotman water colour ($6 $4.50 on sale), one 17¾" REGOLIT paper lampshade ($5), and one HEMMA lamp cord ($4). Took an hour or two, tops.

Now my only question is—should I draw a jack o'lantern face onto it or just leave it as a harvest moon?

It's pretty -- I say leave it as is so it can be used all year long.

No face on it.

How did you do the coloring -- dunk in solution? Paint with a brush? Spray with solution?

Painted it with a brush. I overestimated the amount of water to use, at first, but found the right consistency quickly. I used almost exactly one 8ml tube for a 17¾" sphere (about 990 square inches). Two tubes would be plenty for the 23½" sphere (about 1735 square inches).

Spraying cadmium-based paints in solution is a Bad Thing. Airborne cadmium is carcinogenic. I was thinking of dunking it in a solution, but decided to paint it after all.
