ETL means first you gotta get the data out, then you gotta munge it so it looks like the new format, then you gotta stick it in the new database.

MVC means the business logic that governs what happens should be kept distinct from the ways people actually interact with it. That way, if you swap out the back-end components, you should be able to use the same interface.

So then all the work I did in college was ETL: Extract data from library books; transform it into reports, essays and presentations, and load it onto my teachers' desks. ;)

As for Model-View-Controller: Sounds like the current model for MacOS, but reversed.
