We lost a good one.

This morning I found out that my former officemate Rhonda Smith died in a crash on Saturday. She was gracious and funny and kind, and I'm told that she was a unifying force in the Ask-A-Librarian project because she could make entrenched academicians see her suggestions as quite reasonable.

*sigh*...

fortunately she was able to spend time on our little planet doing something she loved and something that helped people.

hang in there. do something in her memory, make a contribution to an appropriate charity (or to the Ask-A-Librarian project?), I've found it helps me deal with the loss.

Oh, I'll probably read some of her favorite poets -- that'll be a nice way to stay in touch with her. She was somewhat surprised when I told her I'd enjoyed a book she mentioned a year before that. But I took her suggestion seriously.

Though I don't think I'd seen Rhonda since we both got our MLSs, she was always pleasant to be around and work with, and I'm sad to hear that the world has lost her.

damn, that's awful. she sounds like she was a pretty cool frood.

I'm sorry.

I recall, just a few days ago, talking in class about different online reference projects. A couple of my classmates spoke of how well the Ask-A-Librarian project worked, especially in comparison to other options.

Those thoughts now stick in my memory so much more.
