All in a night's work

Reiser fsck detected problems that can only be fixed by --rebuild-tree. It recommends a full backup before you try this, so that's what I'm doing now. No idea how long all of this will take.

I figured out that you have to do this from a rescue disk; I'm copying the latest stable reiserfsck to a floppy because the one SuSE shipped is "experimental". Sheesh.

Fought with Jodi on the phone -- I'm not sure why. She seems to be unhappy that I'm working late. I truly don't get that -- it's not like I'm standing her up. Shit happens, I get to fix it, and that's all there is. Why add strife to a situation that already sucks? I'll get home eventually, and I'm sure they'll understand if I'm a bit tired.

The latest stable reiserfsck is rebuilding the tree. I'm guessing it takes about 20 minutes (gotta love progress meters).

Maybe Jodi is afraid that you will make a habit of it. Us women love our men and want to spend time with them. Unfortunately, in your case, it is part of the job description. Jodi needs to learn that the real world has many people working more than 40 hours. Salaried people get paid more but they are expected to work more than 40 hours too. Currently, I am hourly, I am also a mom first and an employee second. I'm sure at some point when I hit 40 hours a week consistently they will put me on salary. I will also work more hours. I know Ed could be called in at any time. He is the second person on the panic list so it doesn't happen often. It does happen and we deal with it.

I know Jodi is resistant to change. She may be missing you and taking it out on you. She has had an expectation fall short. Did you point out that by sitting for 20 minutes watching a progress meter is 20 minutes you guys could be talking? I would love 20 minutes of quiet myself.

"...they'll understand if I'm a bit tired." I assume are the cats. Cats are flexible. If you are gone for two days, when you get home you will be ignored. Shortly afterwords they will bug you to be petted and feed. They will give you the look of death and everything is fine. Working late one evening isn't going to hurt them. When you walk in the door, they will demand to be petted and fed.

I guess my point is that there is some build up of stress and this is the outlet. Look past the working late. I will be willing to bet she just misses you. It could also be that her life is out of control (new place, new work, new people...) and she is worried about you and the cats.
