So what's all this about definitive election results? Several swing states won't have their absentee ballots counted for a few days or even a week.

I guess the number of absentee votes to count is smaller than the number of votes that Kerry needs to win (in ohio). That's what I heard, but don't know how true it is.

My thoughts are that the votes that have yet to be determined will more than likely be split along the middle like most of the vote was. Therefore they will not appreciably change the results. Kerry knew that and didn't want to make a huge fiasco out of the situation.

I think kerry wanted to avoid dividing the nation like gore did last time. he realized that he would need to get the votes for basically ALL the provisional ballots from ohio -- not bloody likely. He NEEDS ohio to win. all the states that were super close (like a Nader and Libertarian candidate's votes apart :P ), added up together, i don't think he could pull out the electoral votes. He decided to do the big thing and concede the election to bush rather than dragging it out on and on and on. while i CERTAINLY am not happy about bush being in office... i think kerry did the right thing and i respect him more for it.
