We're safe

Since there was a lot of storm damage in Atlanta last night, I just wanted to say to friends and family and search engines and stalkers and posterity that we're safe here in Decatur.

Police are begging people to stay away from downtown for the moment, since they haven't been able to assess the damage in daylight. We don't know if the buildings Jodi's classes and department offices are in are still functional. But the worst of it over here was hail at a steep enough angle to tap the bedroom windows.

Had a great time with everyone we visited. We're back in Atlanta.

Pandora, who used to be Jodi's cat and now lives with my dad, absented herself for several days while we were sleeping in my dad's house, so as a last resort he moved us to the house next door (also his). With a few ad-hoc improvements, it turned out to be pretty comfortable.

Our cash flow seems to have improved to the point that we'll be able to take Pied to the vet. I have some bills to take care of before I'm very confident of this, but it seems like a pretty sure thing.

We're going to spend the next few days cleaning the office and working, and then we'll relax on New Year's Eve (hopefully with [livejournal.com profile] zanna_voodoo and hubby) before returning to the previous schedule.

We spent the last four hours of the drive having a great talk about what we're hoping 2008 will bring. We're both interested in getting our bodies and accounts into shape and more deliberately dedicating time to reconnecting with each other, and we've already come up with several ways to do each of those things. So I'm finishing 2007 (barring a more detailed travelogue, which may eventually follow) with the wish that each of you gets as much out of 2008 as we're hoping to.

The red stuff pictured here is actually anti-corrosion spray.

But the entire gang behind the counter laughed at the notion that running the headlights and the heat would make the battery charge faster.

They're looking at it now.

Uh-oh...

Uh-oh...

I wonder if this is why my car won't start? Generally, I think, one wants to see considerably less bleeding from a brand-new battery.

UPDATE: The guys at the garage tell me that this is actually an anti-corrosion spray that they put on when they installed the new battery. (2005-12-12 8:38am)
