Stereo parts are on their way!

Hooray! I already knew that the non-electronic parts were arriving Thursday, but now it appears that Amazon's super-saver shipping will get the stereo itself to me on Friday!

I was really nervous, because Amazon estimated at first that it would arrive August 15, too late for the road trip. I should have paid for faster shipping, but it looks like all is well anyway. (And I had a Plan B: buy the damn thing from Best Buy and return the one Amazon sent me. I had planned to return it to Amazon, although devious minds could surely find a way to get a bit more money from that transaction.)

So I guess Saturday will be the day I try to install the stereo. There are instructions, apparently, so I should do okay. And if not, I can pay Best Buy $50 to install it (and forfeit my geek bragging rights)...

Take a look at Best Buy or whatever if you don't have a hook-up kit for your car. It makes it a lot easier to hook up a new radio to a car if you have the OEM plug attached to your new radio ready to go...you just unplug the old radio and plug in the new one without having to worry about splicing wires together.

I think I've ordered one, but if it doesn't work, I'll buy the wiring harness from Best Buy, and if I still can't get it, I'll just have them install the thing.

Not to state the obvious, but having the appropriate schematics, diagrams, etc., is very helpful, even for these simple things. I don't know if you have access to ALLData, or similar, at your library, but the manuals are quite worth looking at. Their value is mostly in avoiding breaking the little plastic tabs that may hold things together, so that the trim around your stero still fits perfectly, unlike the one on my old van, which fit ok, except that it had that slightly annoying but very noticable vibration.

Just so you know.

Oh, true. And I know at least one of our libraries uses ALLDATA.
