Jodi's Philosophy of Mind class is going to be having a mock-trial of a robot said to be "like Data".

Question: What should she watch in order to get a good idea of who Data is?

Measure Of A Man?

Isn't there an episode where Data gets laid or something and he goes on a quest to find out what love means? Something like that?

That one.

Need to add: Jodi has never watched Star Trek Next Gen? Ever?

She's seen "Measure of a Man", but I think that's it. She could probably identify Captain Baldy, but nobody else.

the one where:
Data has a daughter
Lore shows up (probably any of them)
he tries to whistle (is that the first one?)
you see him with his cat
Tasha dies
they play poker (not the first, and maybe the last, but probably somewhere in the middle)
he is used as a deus ex machina plot device (he gets them out of the soup because he's not human)

I'll second "Measure of a Man", largely because it's a kick-ass Picard episode as well: "The stated mission of Starfleet is to seek out new life. Well, there it sits!"

A few others:
"Data/Lore" and the follow-up with Dr. Soong.
The episode where Data meets his "mother".
The two-part season finale "Descent", in which Data learns what a "Faustian bargain" is.
The episode where Data is added to a collection...and demonstrates the ability to lie.
The episode where Data lives among peasants, having lost his memory.
The episode where Data is tasked with evacuating a colony: "That was the stun setting. This is not."

Hee hee.

I miss Data. ("DAY-TA not DAH-TUH!")

Guess Summer Glau as a Terminator will just have to do.

"I have a metal plate in my head."
"I fell." "Hard."

Ah, yes.
