Oof, I thought I might get 10 out of 10 on the Credo Reference Friday Brainteaser since it's on food and cooking. I did get 8 of 10, though. Let's see how y'all/yinz/you guys do.

Questions:
1. The Brussels sprout is a type of cabbage: true or false?

2. Venison is the flesh of which animal?

3. What kind of food is "Danish blue"?

4. What is the meaning of the phrase "au gratin"?

5. Who wrote a famous book called "The Book of Household Management" containing 4000 recipes, published in 1861?

6. Which dessert consisting of a meringue base or shell filled with whipped cream and fruit was created as a compliment to a Russian ballerina during her visit to Australia and New Zealand in 1926?

7. Is taramasalata made from meat, fish, or cereals?

8. Michelin stars are awarded for impressive culinary endeavour. What is the highest number of stars ever awarded: three, four or five?

9. What is the usual North American word for a courgette?

10. Which fiery sauce gets its name from a word meaning "damp earth"?

Answers here.

I missed #6 and #10, but gave myself credit for a somewhat narrower answer than theirs on #4.

1. cabbage enough to mess up my insulin and thyroid, oh yes it is. don't know the latin name tho. 2.deer toad says bambi. 3.cheese, blue toad says winsleydale, gouda, edam borsin. I say jsut pass over the St. Andres and call over wallace and grommit and !. 4.toad says it's OLD rotten potatoes, isn't that it? I say NO toad that's wrong, it's with avec/ con/ fromage/queso/ possibly but grate er not great tho it can be, slices and shreds is the "grat hell i can't spell french. toad also insists it's usually served with rubber chicken. no extra charge for toad's 'entertainment' answers.
5. toad says betty crocket, davey's widow corrupted to betty crocker after she had a few after being captured at the alamo.
6. toad says not sure but it'd be a bit moldy by now wouldn't it? Pav no not hte pavalov dog, er, pavlova, something like that. wait there is no rule six! Irena? is that right oh well it's wrong, maybe it's bug's first name. anyway toad is now saying , Tara Lipinski's tutu won't all the dogs be drooling for that.

7. look its' made of evil wheat and maybe some slimey milk and some stinkin fish. Blech. "I'd rather have some spotted dick thank you very much", says toad. "In a tin". *nudge nudge wink wink say no more* I'd rather have toad in the hole.

8.Trois etoiles which sounds like a toilet to frog, but is three stars unless you are counting the stars given by that lady who wrote Garlic and Sapphires and dressed up to go to the restaurants before reviewing for hte NYT. Ruth, reichel. Toad again, "Besides i don' tknwo what michelin is doing rating restaurants they're the ones who invented rubber chicken."

9. YELLOW! don't go to the toilet idea from above for this yellow summer squash, one of frog's favorite veggies, after fresh green beans and equal to broccoli. Good low carb grilled, baked, steamed, raw even, i love em. also nice shape since vibes ... er nevermind.

10.McIlhenney's tabasco sauce from AVERY island Louisiana. Most seeds are actually from there, but now grown all over the place by the family which still holds the aged oak barrels and business. it's not publically traded easily avail and all stock i think is given to other family members or something. Gotta know yer nawlins stuff and louisiana if you live down here by you. er, bayou, er, by the swamp.

5 was my only wrong answer, but 10 was a guess I got right. I saw no problem with their answer to 4, but wanted a more specific answer to 7 than they gave.
