Here's the latest on my quest to stop snoring: my insurance doesn't cover sleep studies.

But here's the second-latest: fluticasone seems to have done the trick, once I realized that its purpose was to let me breathe through my nose all night, and inferred that I was supposed to be sleeping with my mouth closed.

See, for years I've never thought about sleeping with my mouth closed; it just wasn't an option because I tend to get stuffy at night.

I never made the connection that I snore only when I have my mouth open until a night or two ago. We've both been sleeping much better since then.

Three things I accomplished today, my second day of medical leave:
  • After a successful saving throw vs. constitution at 6:30 in the freaking morning, I got my car into the garage and arranged a rental while they're working on it (squeaking brakes are a lot easier to ignore than a check-engine light and an engine that idles at 800rpm, no make that 2000, no make that 1000, no make that 500, no make that 1800...)
  • Took Jodi to a followup appointment (it went well; that's all you're getting unless she feels like telling you)
  • Helped Jodi send out some transcript requests (if you've enjoyed this game, you'll enjoy dealing with Hillsborough Community College; meanwhile, Indian River Community College charges absolutely nothing for transcripts and accepts a faxed request for multiple copies on the same piece of paper -- and can produce them the same day, for double the price)
Three things that made the day suck less, or maybe even be enjoyable at times:
  • The rental car I arranged was, for no extra charge, a convertible, and the weather was perfect for it most of the day.
  • I managed to find a drink at Got Tea? that fit within the change from $7 after I bought Jodi's drink.
  • If I can put away all the groceries and scoop the catbox in record time and have a second beer, I might actually get six and a half hours of sleep before I return to the office and start catching up on everything.

Yesterday I met my new supervisor. OK, that's a lie; I've known him for years. But yesterday I met him *as* my supervisor. And it was good.

Bird wading in a pondAfter work, and after a little bit of grocery shopping, I dropped off a prescription and came home. I hopped on my bike (though the tires were a little underinflated) and headed out to the bike store on the way to the pharmacy. And I decided to bring my camera gear, since I figured I would get some neat pictures. And I did -- this bird, for example. The guy at the bike store showed me how to use a French stem, and I inflated my tires. Man, that made a real difference -- it was much easier to ride out of there than it was to ride in.

This area has been restricted for a whileOn the way back from the pharmacy, I took a new road, one that's semi-closed to cars (53rd Avenue). And about halfway up the road, my rear tire burst. Dammit, that wasn't part of the plan. So I called [livejournal.com profile] tregoweth for a ride, locked up my bike near this sign being swallowed by a tree, and hiked up to Fletcher. On my way up, I got a call from Jodi, who was ready (much earlier than usual) to be picked up on campus. I explained the situation and fairly soon picked her up with [livejournal.com profile] tregoweth's help. We all headed to my place, where I fed them brownies. [livejournal.com profile] segnbora came over too, and we had a merry old time until I finally kicked them out around midnight. It was a good night.

Except for the bit about being woken up at 2:20am because Jodi thought Amanda was taking too long to get home from work, and getting scorn heaped on me because I expressed confidence that she would be just fine. That sucked.

But other than that, a good night.
