Watch what happens when people conspire to act legally -- in this case, to obey the 55mph speed limit on a major interstate highway in tandem, thus forcing everyone behind them to do the same.

bah
Date: 2006-03-01 06:32 pm (UTC)I have to completely disagree with this.
One, they are *in no way* showing how dumb the law is. I fail to see how this will force speed-limit or penalty changes.
Two, they are pissing folks off... increasing the liklihood of road-rage.
They might be all high and mighty about it, but they're just stroking their own egos with this 'experiment.'
It reminds me of when a convoy of truck drivers staged a protest last year in LA by stopping (or going very slowly... I forget) in the middle of the highway. They didn't get the money they were looking for, and apparently lost a whole lot business as well.
To note, I have no problem with folks driving the speed limit. And yes, it *is* the law. A law that is really only in place to 'keep things under control,' and not as a hard rule... unless of course the cops are in a particularly bad mood :)

I'd love to see that experiment repeated with some cops standing by. Even if they are driving the speed limit, that formation driving could still easily lead to tickets if classified by the police as a dangerous driving...

Date: 2006-03-02 12:23 pm (UTC)For extra credit, how many suddenly parked cars would it take to block a major interchange in four directions during rush hour? And how many in total if you parked a few of them half a mile back, blocking the shoulders to slow down the tow trucks?
